Google’s G Suite apps (Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Sites) are standard productivity tools for many schools and universities. The collaborative nature of these tools allow students to be creators, rather than just consumers of information. They offer students the opportunity to be engaged with the material they learn. All the apps are sourced and stored in the cloud so using G Suite is as easy as using the internet.
Chromebooks work hand in hand with G Suite, as most G Suite apps come pre-installed. Laptops for every student in the classroom is common and Chromebooks are the #1 laptop sold to US K-12 Schools. Technology is the future of education, but it is also the present. Educators are constantly looking for ways to increase engagement and performance with their students in interactive and innovative ways.
Add in Jamboard, Google’s digital whiteboard, and students can experience a completely interactive classroom. Jamboard has intuitive, lag-free writing and drawing tools that make using the board feel natural, but it is far from your average whiteboard. With cloud connectivity, educators can use Google Search and Google image search to add images and web content to the board. With G Suite integration, any document in your Google Drive can be placed on the Jamboard screen. Lecturers can begin their lessons by pulling up a Slides presentation from their G Drive and annotate, circle, and highlight key phrases right from the board.
Students can collaborate on the board from their Chromebooks. In the question and answer portion of the lesson, students can join the Jam, write, add sticky notes, or images from their Chromebooks and watch them pop up on the board. With the Jamboard app, students can connect and co-author from any device, anywhere, at any time.
A Google classroom, G Suite, Chromebooks, and Jamboard, is an immersive collaboration experience. Students can’t help but feel engaged and excited to learn!
